It's one of those nights when the air feels almost stagnant. Not bitter, just unmoving, worn out- like a slightly damp table cloth as it hangs limply over the edges of the table to drape across your knees. It's still, but not lifeless. I can feel a faint humming energy about the night that reminds me it's alive.
A shocking breeze just floated in through my window, engulfing me completely; sending goosebumps rippling up my arms. Tonight is one of the coolest nights we've had in weeks, but you can only feel it when the wind blows. And yet... it's almost no even cool in temperature as much as in essence. I'd guess it's about 60, 65 degrees out. But the chills in my spine tell me it's more like 25, when the wind blows.
Oddly, that wind isn't bothering me. Ever time those chance breezes touch my sleepy skin they send electrifying waves through my body. Makes me think of dark water and moon-lit white water lilies. I suck in a sharp breath and my hair stands on end.
There is a lamp beside my bed with a cream shade. The golden, muted light reminds me of a candle and suddenly I'm back in the nineteenth century. The throbbing warmth of that lamp, steady and cozy is like an antidote to my nerves. In my mind I smell wood polish, unbleached paper, and camp fire. It's all leather chairs with metal tack-things all around the edges.
I feel more ready for bed now. My covers feel softer, kinder. The clock reads "11:20 pm". The crickets no longer sounds so shrill and cutting in their buzzing and chirping.
Tomorrow will be a good day. I know it. Because I have decided so already.
Good night.

A gesture of absolute irrationalism.
alright. update time. now, what do i update?
ah! i'm in Missouri right now. Away form school for a couple of weeks. This is both a sad and glad thing. No more homework, etc. but not much of a social life either. I spend my days working at a computer all day, or picking veggies. No. I do other things. I watch movies. I read books. I help run errands. Really, so far it's not so bad. Well, except yesterday. My boss left for a couple of weeks without telling me he would be gone that long, and he didn't leave me enough worked to do to last that long. So I spend most of my time coming up with things to do. Some more constructive and productive than others. And example of one of the "others" would be cleaning out my e-mail inbox. Yeah. Fun! Especially for hours on end. So though the last couple of days I have had to leave work early anyway in order to accomidate transportation for my mom and a few work meetings she's had... I've left early. Earlier than she needed me to. Why? Well, two reasons. I don't exactly enjoy sitting around doing nothing for hours on end. Nor do I think it is honest to get paid for it. So there.
Aaaaaaahhh!!!
OKOKOK...
Um... what else. Oh! My sister-in-law is really showing now. Sometimes he (yes, it's a boy!) kicks her and you can see it on the surface, like a little earthquake. They (my bro and her) finally got their house and just started moving in. My sister got a job down in Kansas City. And another of my sisters and her husband are in Russia right now. She says they're looking at museums and historical things like Rembrant and Leonardo da Vinci origional art, and they even got to eat dinner on a boat called "the Flying Dutchman".
I don't know everything that is going on in everyone's life right now, but later this month we're having a little family get-together and that is really making me excited. We're going to have a little baby shower for my sister-in-law, and most-likely sort through all the stuff we've halled back from my grandma's house (among other things).
I'm reading a book called "Elantris" by Brandon Sanderson. It's pretty good. There are a few corney things in the writing, but it's fiction. They are never perfect. So other than being an extremely critical reader, i'm really enjoying it.
My hair is completely unpredictable. It behave copletely differently her than it does in Idaho. In Idaho it's just frizzy and feather light. Here it's flat and limp and lifeless (with a little fuzz). I need to get it cut again. For a couple reasons. A) I have a lock of hair that is too long for bangs, and too short to be pulled back. It just kinda... hangs. Or I try and trap it back with it's own personal bobby pin. It's really and awkward piece and it gets on my nerves. B) my hair has absolutely no body. When it's shorter and layered, it actually has, well, form. It's too short to really put up a fight. It isn't long enough to be obnoxiously stubborn and pigheaded about doing absolutely nothing I would appriciate. and C) I think that the was it was in January looked better on my. I admit, when I first got it cut at the hair place, I HATED it. I was so frusterated. But when it got to take back it's own personality, and I got to style it my own way, I really liked it. I liked it on me.
Ok, enough ranting for now I think. I am tired and I can't believe I just spent all this time doing a much needed update rambling. I need to go... get a life. Ok. I'll check back with y'all (tired, crooked grin) later.
Cheers

Midsummer's Night Blind Date
Alright people.
This week has been BUSY! I've had several big projects due, and whatnot. I also found out that I got A's on two of my most recent tests. HOORAY!
However, the most interesting news is about yesterday. Yesterday, when my roommates decided to set me up on a blind date with a guy that they didn't personally know. Ok, so they knew people who knew him, but they couldn't really tell me anything about him other than his name was John, and he had red hair. Ok...
Little to say I was QUITE nervous about this. They took it upon themselves to set me up whether I liked it or not and then sat back and watched me get all flustered and eventually resigned to the fact that there was no way that I was going to get out this. And not only was it a blind date, it was a semiformal dance! I haven't done much dancing in ages! Little to say there was a lot of learning going on throughout the night. But in the long run I had a lot of fun. John was really nice and a good dancer and obviously immensely patient with me and my untutored skills. I admit there was some things I probably did wrong during the night. Like whenever there was a stretch of silence I would start asking him questions. About his major, his family, his interests. I suppose I was nervous, and evidently I didn't know him very well, but I think now that having a few comfortable silences would have been much more... well, comfortable. People who know me know that I am a pro at inquisitions, and after a bit I started realizing that drilling him for information was not helping. Not one bit! But then I start apologizing. And soon shut up completely because that's even MORE annoying! Still, when we weren't standing or sitting in awkwardness it was a lot more relaxed and a lot more fun than I would have anticipated. By the end of the night I was getting better at the dances and we were laughing more. All seemed ok, until my skirt started to slip down. And while I wasn't afraid of it falling, it was a very long skirt (remember, semiformal) and I was beginning to trip on it. At one point he dipped me and I couldn't lean back very far because we were both standing on the hem of my skirt. So our two last dances were pretty much disasters. And it wasn't as if I was going to grab my skirt and hike it up. I tried to hold onto it like in those ballroom dancing poses, but that only helped part of the time.
In the end it was a lot of fun. The dance was called "A Midsummer's Night Dance" and indeed it was. The weather was beautiful and the sunset stunning. The moon was gorgeous and the whole evening was really perfect for a dance. The dance was outside and the air was warm and breezy (which the guys particularly appriciated). It was really nice.
There were of course a few times throughout the night when I opened my mouth and inserted my foot, but suprisingly enough they were few. That most of all made me happy. I didn't make a complete fool of myself. YAY!
Ok. It's late. I need sleep (though I inadvertently took a 3 hour nap today). Besides, me arm are still sore from all the twirling I did last night. (I've got knots on either bisep) So I'm going to call it a night now. Audios Amigos!
Cheers.

A Hard Day's Night
Today.... is a day that will go down in history as "a lesson(s) learned in the life of Katrina Louise Salt". BAM!
Today....... wow....
LONG DAY!
let's start at the very beginning.
7:15 a.m. Alarm goes off. Hit snooze until 7:25. Get up. Get in the shower. Spend three minutes in luke warm water before suddenly in goes COLD! Get out, get dressed. Barely presentable. Run to class and arrive barely on time. Discover that evening group meeting is canceled.
9:30 a.m. Arrive home from class. Pack backpack for afternoon. Finish getting dressed nicely for the day. Run to class.
11:15 a.m. Hike up to other campus building and meet up with Sarah. Take longer, out of the way route to temple area so Sarah's friend can find us. Drive up to the temple. Do a baptism cession (lots of waiting, lasted until 1:30 pm). Drive home. Change. Listen to Devotional while eating first meal of the day.
2:45 pm Go into bedroom and discover my driver's license is missing.
3:00 pm Give up looking for license and head to class. Almost fall asleep in class. Find out I got an A on the test.
4:15 pm Grab keys and roommate and go looking for license. Drive half hour back to the sage brush area where i was taking photos yesterday and hunt for license for half hour. Give up. Walk back to car. Walk out to a random, unprevisited spot, look down, see license. Happy happy joy joy!!!
6:30 pm Eat dinner. Plug in camera to charge. Wait. Borrow classmate's tripod.
7:30 pm Head out to sanddunes to finish photographing. Get grain of sand in lense. Try to blow clean. Fogs up lense. Wait. Wait. Lense is still fogged. Wait. Nothing happening. Can't take pictures because everything is too foggy. Give up. Pack up. Put camera safely in pocket and pray for it to recover. Get everything into the car. Take camera out of pocket.... and sand showers out of camera. Shake camera. Out comes more sand. Try to turn on camera. Lense won't open. Put hand in pocket... it's FULL of sand. Sit, dumb struck for 15 minutes. Call dad to inquire as to the safety and protical of fixing the camera. Drive home.
Feeling a bit lost. A bit perplexed. A bit... reluctant. I went to the tempe today. If there's one thing I know, it's that God has had his hand so evident in my life today, it's almost scary. The recovery of my license is almost defies the laws of probability. And losing my camera... well it feels a little bit like the time I broke my nose. I'm replaying the day over and over in my mind. How, less than 24 hours before hand, I was using it in a very mundain way. I could never have predicted what was about to happen. I was an unforeseeable, and controlable accident. And, I guess you could say, I'm still in shock.
I suppose the day wouldn't seem so harsh in contrast and realism if there weren't other, outside, more abstract factors playing in my mind. Like my big photography project due Thursday. Or all the stress every single one of my roommates are going through. Not just school. Much, MUCH more.
This semester has been one of the most emotionally trying semesters I've ever had. There are real people out there, with real, undoubtable, abundant trials, and sometimes we just think that they are rare. We only see our own lives, our own trials. Well, if there's one thing that I've learned this semester, it's that it's more real, and it's closer than you think. The power of satan is real. Tragedy and disaster are real. Innocent, righteous people do get hurt. But even more important, God is real. God is powerful. Love and mercy and hope are undeniable forces that trump the woes of life, even in the darkest hours. And I think that the hardest part is knowing that it's happening to someone else. I hate watching other people suffer and just standing by, helpless. I can comfort, give advice, try and cheer them up... but i have to stand back and let them learn. Arrrgghh!
but still.

Brenardo E. Paca la Lunella de Beniccio
So, I guess that it's two bloggings in one day. You lucky people you.
I just feel that I need to update this "journal" for all those of you out there who want to know I care enough about you to share.
To start with, school!
I got midterms back: A, A, B, B-, B+, P
not too bad really.
Classes are going well. I love this semester, still! I love my Anthropology class best, followed by my Art Lecture class second best.
I have great roommates. We have so much fun and make eachother laugh so hard. (through which I've discovered that I apparently have an interesting laugh. Whenever I'm laughing my roommates start laughing at me laughing 'cuz they love it when I laugh. I feel special now.) Of course we aren't happy-go-lucky all the time. We have friend problems, boy problems, school problems, random problems... life still goes on basically. But I think we make a good stab at rising above the doom and gloom of stoicism most days.
I've made other friends as well. One of my roommates got me in contact with one of here other friends (she said we reminded her of each other) and already we're having a lot of fun. I really like good friends! I went to his B'day party (ssshhh! no one is suppose to know it's his b'day) this weekend and sorta kinda gotta to know him in person (sorta kinda because as the host of any party one is kinda occupied with catering to everyone at once and can't really spend a lot of time simply talking to a few select people)
Then today I went with one of my roommates down to Idaho Falls and had lunch with her family. It felt really nice to be back in a family setting again. I love families!
My brother and sister-in-law and even my sister are all now back in Missouri.
Here in Rexburg it's been raining for almost three weeks straight. But atleast the temps are in the mid to low 70's. In Missouri right now I hear it's a bit like a sauna. High humidity, lots of rain, and temps in the general upper 80's mid 90's. Whew! Though I bet it's green. My dad's thinking of changing our farm from "Green Valley Farm", to "Green Jungle Farm."
Today was father's day. I called my dad and talked for a little bit. It was nice. But still... some people do all sorts of things for Mothers' and Fathers' days. Presents, special meals, etc. They go all out. I don't know if it is because we were raised on meagre rations or what, but we usually would make a card, fix their favorite meals if we could, maybe get them a flower or a small gift... and away from home, what can you do besides calling and sending a card? Sometimes, though, I wish I could do more.
Wow! One month left in the semester. ONE MONTH! The last day of class in July 23rd. No kidding! I'm actually sad to see this semester coming to an end. Of all my time up here, I've loved this semester the most! Geez.
Ok. It's late. I've got a head ache. I'm really sleepy. I'm going to bed.
Luv Ya
Cheers.

Note worthy love-it worthies
And here we go again.
I love the early morning, crisp and pure, new and untouched. When everything is bathed in a dew-soaked light. I love when the sky is that super-saturated royal blue, just after the sun sets. So heavy and rich and almost surreal. I love sauted mushrooms, maple sausage, cheese cake, and succulent hot chocolate. I love when I get to have new clothes. That untouched, unworn feeling that lets you know they are yours, for you to imprint upon. And yet, at other times, I love wearing used clothes. Besides affordability, they carry with them a past, a story, a uniqueness all there own. I love calling home and hearing those familiar voices, the voices that already know you, that share memories, stories, dialect... I love dark, deep, high backed armchairs. I love old wooden desks and sewing machines and tables. I love old photographs. Everyone's faces so open, so raw, so mysterious. The humanness, the solidity, the relation of man to man undisguised or altered in form. I love knowing that I can feel. Pain, sorrow, relief, joy, elation, disappointment, loneliness, excitement, simple happiness... I like to know that I can cry. That I'm not so callused and aloof that I don't have weaknesses. And yet I'm glad to know I am generally an upbeat, optimistic person. I don't suffer from constant depression, I don't worry uncontrollably, I don't inanely hate anyone. I love knowing that I'm not perfect. I know I have room to grow, to stretch, to make mistakes. I love the millions of random, good people. The ones that bob their heads and say hello, who love you without knowing you, who treat you will generosity and politeness and curiosity without having to think about it. And I love the people who do think about it. The ones who look at you and wonder about you. Who you are, what you're like, why you are the way you are. I love wondering about other people. I love having a bed to sleep in. With pillow and blankets and a mattress. I love cheese. I love Italian food. I love not always getting my way. I love variety and consistency, in organized randomnesses that make life worth living and loving.

LISTEN to the rainbow
All right guys. Here it is. My "COLORS" play list! It was my observation a while ago, that not all popular songs have to be about love. Some are just about colors. (ok, so maybe it's both, but that's beside the point.) So I went of a song scavenger hunt and put them together for a rainbow experience! (Listen to the rainbow - not skittle). Ok then. Here it goes.
p.s. chances are i'm still going to add more songs. if you have any suggestions, send them my way.
